Support the Formation of a Local Food Council (6.N.1.)

The Sustainability Advisory Board adopted and began a work plan for 2022-2023 that includes food system stakeholder and priority mapping to help build community partnerships and identify priorities in support of a robust local food system. The Sustainability Board provided input on an initial scope of work for the Food System Mapping project.
- The Sustainability Division completed the Local Food System Preliminary Mapping Project in 2024. The project consisted of a series of interviews with over 80 participants representing various perspectives throughout the local food system. The project was intended to build partnerships, help identify the potential role of local government, and explore opportunities for the City collaborate with local partners to better support a robust local food system. The final report includes Opportunities and Next Steps that were identified as actionable steps the City can take. Findings from the interviews suggested that for the formation of a Local Food Council to be effective, it would need to be led as a collaborative effort involving Gallatin County, other municipalities, nonprofit organizations, agencies, and private sector entities.
- The City will engage in conversations with key partners and peer community members about the potential to develop a Local Food Council in this area.
