Status Indicators: Complete | In Progress| Not Yet Started
The Sustainability Division started the Local Food System Preliminary Mapping Project. The project consists of 25 interviews with constituents from various facets of the local food system. The goals of the project are to deepen the City’s understanding of the current food system, cultivate partnerships, and inform the City’s next steps. The project will help inform the focus of a future Food System Assessment and Security Plan.
- The Sustainability Division completed the Local Food System Preliminary Mapping Project in 2024. The project consisted of a series of interviews with over 80 participants representing various perspectives throughout the local food system. The project was intended to build partnerships, help identify the potential role of local government and explore opportunities for the City of Bozeman to collaborate with local partners to better support a robust local food system. The final report includes Opportunities and Next Steps that were identified as actionable steps the City can take. Findings from the interviews suggested that the development of a Food System Assessment and Security Plan would need to be led as a collaborative effort involving Gallatin County, other municipalities, nonprofit organizations, agencies, and private sector entities.
- The Local Food System Preliminary Mapping Project identified Next Step 4.3: Define the City’s role in ensuring community food security during emergencies and planning for community food resilience. The Sustainability Division will collaborate with other departments and partner organizations to define the City’s role in emergency food response and resilience.
