Continue Regional Coordination on Compact Growth and Sustainable Development (3.G.1.)

Status Indicators: Complete | In Progress| Not Yet Started

Coordinate with regional partners, such as the County, to develop design standards that will guide compact and sustainable development.

  • The 2020 Triangle Community Plan is a coordinated effort between Gallatin County, Bozeman, and Belgrade to support regional planning and coherent land use patterns.
  • Following the successful adoption of the 2020 Triangle Community Plan, the Triangle Trails Plan was adopted in 2021, emphasizing multi-modal transportation connections. The Triangle Plans serve as a reference for the Parks, Recreation, & Active Transportation Plan (PRAT) that was completed and adopted in 2023.
  • Gallatin County’s 2021 Envision Growth Policy includes goals related to the environment, natural hazards, and agricultural heritage.
  • Community Development participated with Gallatin County in creation of an updated future land use map for Gallatin County, including the unincorporated areas next to the City of Bozeman.
  • The City Commission and Community Development Department will continue to participate in information sharing and coordination with the Planning Coordination Committee.
  • An update to the City’s Engineering Design Standards will include County utility coordination in the scope of work.
  • Consideration of further code updates to implement the PRAT and Gallatin Valley Sensitive Lands Protection Project may be included in the Commissions 2024-2025 Priorities.
  • GIS and Community Development will continue a cooperative project with MSU, local advocacy groups, and ditch owners to improve documentation of ditch and stream locations in the Bozeman planning area. Protection of both supports habitat and continued agricultural production.
