Status Indicators: Complete | In Progress| Not Yet Started

District heating energy systems pipe hot water, steam, and/or cold water from a centralized plant to a set of buildings in lieu of placing boilers or chillers in each building. District heating can support energy efficiency, building electrification, climate resilience, renewable energy storage, renewable energy production, and more. The City will work to develop a plan to support district energy and explore funding models.

The draft Uniform Development Code (UDC) update includes definitions and provisions for district energy systems to ensure the development code does not hinder innovative and efficient building energy systems.

The Commission will consider adoption of the draft Uniform Development Code, which will incorporate definitions and provisions for district energy systems to ensure the development code does not hinder innovative and efficient building energy systems.
